About
I was named Sarel Johannes Oberholster after my grandfather. My family emigrated from Switzerland to South Africa during the Dutch colonial rule. I reside in Johannesburg with my wife and daughter, on a 2,5 acres smallholding together with two black cats Matilda and Sabrina and 11 Koekoek chickens. I hold a BCom (Cum Laude) with majors in Economics and Accounting, a professional banking Diploma CAIB (SA), and have done certified market training on Bonds and Derivatives at St Catherine's College, Oxford University in the UK. I specialized in special projects and treasury as a financial engineer/banker before striking out on my own. Writing was a discipline to crystalize my thoughts which I started sharing in articles. I write about that which I know, markets and the economy. Everything I've ever done goes into my writing, analytics and innovation from my special projects days, money and banking as a treasurer, markets as a trader but most of all I put my heart into it. I was genetically programmed for fair play and it often was a burden in a world where anything goes as long as it can be shaped as legal. I write my books grounded in fair play. I have travelled extensively and immersed myself in other cultures to broaden my perspectives. (The photo alongside is of me high up in the Himalayan Mountains on tour in Tibet, where nomadic tribes still roam the tundra. A population controlled by religion and China.)
